Tell us a bit about your business?
“McDonald Fencing, established in 2004, has been under new ownership for seven months,” Owner Dave Heelan said. “We work for a mixture of commercial, industrial and private clients as far up as north of Perth, all the way down to Albany, inland and of course Bunbury and surrounds.
“Our client base is a mixture of private, commercial and industrial clients. Our largest client is a contract group from Tasmania that provides fencing for all the NBN compounds for clients such as Telstra, Vodaphone and Ericson throughout the South West region, as well as Geraldton in the north, the Wheatbelt, Albany and Esperance. We also have numerous major clients based mainly in Bunbury and Busselton, as well as Perth and Mandurah companies. Recently some well-known civil contract groups and property managers have started calling us as a preferred contractor for their needs. Exciting times for our new business venture!”
What does BHR Papalia do for you?
“BHR Papalia was recommended by our financial advisor three years ago,” Dave said.
“We swapped from our Perth accountant to BHR Papalia, just because they were closer and easily visited for tax purposes. We were introduced to Kiko and immediately felt a great connection with him. He has helped us way more than we could have hoped leading into the new business and has been a great sounding board for ideas and concepts that we had been contemplating. BHR did our due diligence for this business when we looked at purchasing it. They did extensive, thorough reports about the business, how it was structured, and how it was performing over the last seven years. We received a full dossier of every detail along with an adaptable business plan for the future.”
What have been your achievements or highlights from the past 12 months?
“We’ve already achieved a full year’s average turnover in seven months, and it looks like we’ll be off to a great start in this venture,” Dave said. “We’ve been very busy – job, jobs and more jobs!
“Kiko has been fantastic, exceptionally helpful, as well as the ladies in the office, Lara, Sharon and Jackie (no doubt I forgot someone). We have regular contact with them and a quick response to any queries or concerns. With our accounting package Kiko and the accounts team are constantly reviewing, giving us feedback, and giving us good common-sense advice or help when required.”
